Music Review: Benjiszzy Záakìi – The Preacher Outside The Church

Benjiszzy Záakìi: The Preacher Outside The Church

Benjiszzy Záakìi: The Preacher Outside The Church

This year would definitely be a very memorable one for Port-Harcourt finest artist Benjiszzy Záakìi who also goes by the alias SON OF THE LION which happens to be the title of his most recent EP and THE SEED OF JACOB as he was diagnosed of brain cancer and underwent a surgery which was successful.

After the surgery he announced the release of a new project titled SON OF THE LION which was supposed to have been released in May but was postponed until it was released on the 30th of July 2021.

On the 15th of June 2021, we predicted possible features on the project which included veteran rapper & hip hop artist M.I Abaga, raving sensational Nigerian artist Kizz Daniel, the highlife Prophet Kaydee Numbere and another Port Harcourt fine artist Dandizzy also known as the wave daddy. When the project was released on the 30th of July, it was seen that the first two names weren’t on the project but the last two names made it to the EP.

Listening to the tracks on the EP on the afternoon of the release, I conferred on him the title of a preacher though this is not the first time I’ve seen him as one neither will this be the last time.

Analyzing the tracks on the EP, does he really worth the title “PREACHER”? What did he preach about? Let’s take a close look into these tracks.

The EP kicks off with a 45 seconds living eulogy of Benjiszzy Záakìi highlighting him as one of the most loved artist in Port Harcourt city and beyond which was evident when the brain cancer ailment and surgery operation were made public. In less than a week, the funds needed were sorted out without hassle.

After the intro, the track “LEAVE ME ALONE” is the first track that welcomes listeners.

Before we delve into what he preached about on this track, it would be worthy to note that being a preacher isn’t an easy task especially when you don’t follow the regular path and patterns that people may have been accustomed to.

I could remember and practically tell about the backlash Benjiszzy faced when he released tracks likeANOTHER SATURDAY, “ONE TAP” and the project “PHARISEES” which featured various artists.

Amongst the preachers in the church, they have their differences as they have been called to function in different spheres/dimensions, some function greatly on faith, others on grace yet some function on love, the family and so on.

The utmost goal of the gospel is to bring salvation to the lost and for the edification of the saints. Either way it functions, God the father is always glorified hence the track “LEAVE ME ALONE”.

This track passed the message of leaving the called with his/her caller as their judge in the simplest form.

The song “SPOTLIGHT” is the next track and this track happens to be my favorite song on the EP. On this track, the son of the Lion carefully used his beautiful lyrics laced on the afropop rhythm to preach about keeping our focus & gaze on the person of Jesus and His finished work on the cross of Calvary.

These days, we have a lot fighting for our attention, using himself as an example, the accolades, fame, shows and of course the ladies coming in would fight to be the center of his attention but he reminded every listener that the ultimate attention (spotlight) you’ll ever get is the one that God shines on you.

This track aligns greatly with the scripture recorded in Hebrews 12:2a “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith (Berean Study Bible)”.

From the track Spotlight, we head straight to the fourth track which featured Dandizzy also known as the wave daddy titled “MY PITAKWA”.

The feature on this tracks will cause many to raise their noses. Religious folks will be quick to point out and ask why did he feature a secular artist? Are you sure he hasn’t backslided? Let’s keep that discussion for another time but for the now let’s focus on the Son Of The Lion EP.

On this beautiful track, both artistes used their musical prowess to show the love (patriotism) they have for their city and you’ll definitely agree with me that patriotism is one of the attribute God wants His sons/daughters to portray.

Before anything else, Benjiszzy is from Pitakwa and if as a person he’d want to fulfill the scriptures as recorded in Psalms 122:6, he’d first of all have to love the city for him to be able to pray for its peace. We can see yet again that Záakìi just preached about patriotism.

From the message of patriotism, the preacher moved on to the subject of having faith and trusting in God with the track “ELEDUMARE” which featured the highlife prophet Kaydee Numbere who just released his album “THE HEIRLOOM”.

One unique thing about this track is the way Benjiszzy acted out as one fed up with life and complaining unto God while Numbere played the part of God in the song re-echoing the personality of God and the question He asked in Jeremiah 32:27 “Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is anything too difficult for Me? – Berean Study Bible”.

This track will not only make you tap your feet and nod your head but carefully feeding on the message preached on this track will ignite hope when you feel that situation you’re in has no solution. Have faith in Eledumare.

The final track and message on the #SOTL EP is the track ZÁAKÌI an Hausa word which is translated to mean Lion in English language.

On this track, the preacher prided on his sonship to the Lion of the tribe of Judah.

Contrary to popular belief and opinion about Jiszzy, he does not just edify the saints (a stance some people still argue about) with his music but he also makes sure the lost ones are reconciled back to the Father which is the very summary of this track.

Not just calling them to come but also showing them the scriptural route of coming back and becoming sons as recorded in Romans 10:10.

We’ve been able to look at each track briefly and summarizing all he preached on each track. Do you then agree with me on conferring upon Benjiszzy Záakìi the title of a preacher? Let us know in the comment section.

In case you’re still in doubt that he’s a preacher or you felt we exaggerated his stance or the sermons on each track, then get the EP from your preferred digital stores and be the judge.
