For a person to alter how something is perceived to be, there must be a reason and an intention behind it.
Dabo shared with us, his reason of altering the fashion sense in the gospel mindustry, he said;
I want to represent a proper gospel artist in all ramifications. Beyond the music, there is a personality, over the years people have seen gospel music and gospel artists as one set of dull, sadden and unlively set of people but thank God the narrative about the style of music has changed a lot as we have groovy music these days from Gospel artist than then.
One sphere I think is still behind where I’m looking forward to influence is the fashion sense.
There are Christian billionaires who rock designers so it wouldn’t be bad for artists to rock these designers.
It has become a cliche in Nigeria and the African culture that the simpler you’re dressed the more holier you are but we all know that’s not true.
Being a gospel artist doesn’t mean we’ll have to be rigid and be the suit, tie and be on corporate dressing.
From the kind of music I make, I don’t fit in the suit and tie category so it heightens my motivation to want to change the fashion sense narrative of how people have seen gospel artists when it comes to fashion but it would be worthy to note that even as I’m determined to change the fashion scene narrative, I’m a preacher and doer of decency in dressing.
