HAVE YOU TRIED TO BEAT THAT HABIT FOR YEARS AND FAILED? Here is something you most likely have been missing:
PLOT TWIST– Fighting that habit might have been counterproductive. I’m not saying you shouldn’t fight at all, I’m saying that’s not enough.. Fighting habits is like plucking the leaves off a tree and hoping the tree will die. No, go for the root! How? Keep reading.
Purpose is a great weapon against habits. If you’re living without a compelling dream, there is a void in your life you might be trying to fill without knowing. The popular quotes aren’t cliché after all: “Nature abhors a vacuum” and “The idle mind is the devil’s workshop”.
Habits almost always require a replacement! To drop bad ones, pick a good one. This is why people have unintentionally made headway against habits by simply getting a job. Many on the other hand, found new habits creeping in in holiday-like seasons.
Apparently, even people with the vilest appetites know how to focus when they have an examination to write the next day. With the right focus and purposeful engagement, we have more self-control than we realize. Therefore, even if as a volunteer, ensure you’re not idle.
Notice Hebrews 12:1 says we should lay aside every weight and run? Many simply lay aside but don’t run. Run! Your life’s assignment preserves you from vices. Running includes studying the underlying patterns sponsoring the habit and changing it. Note from Heb. 12:1 – Instead of obsessing over the habits you wish to conquer, obsess over the Purpose the habits seek to hinder.
“Lay aside” to “run”. The race is the focus! Not the habit. We’d talk more about this in the future, but I do hope this helped you. If so, share this with someone who might need this.
